This pass starts the same as the other pass where you feed the sleeve…again, start by collasping your opp’s knee and feeding his outside (left) arm to your hand (right) that is between his legs….but instead of bringing your (left) knee across his stomach…..

1. Reach your left arm around to the other (back) side of his head like you are doing a trying to do a guillotine but grab his left collar as deep as you can

You can finish the choke by sprawling out right from here and pulling your arm back…

Or…

2. You can walk around your opp’s head, get your head to INSIDE of your opp’s stomach and flip over onto your back.

3. Now trap his leg between your legs and pull up to finish the choke

If you are passing the guard (left) and you can collaspe your opp’s knee down…

1. Use your outside (left) hand and grab your opp’s bottom (right) arm and feed it to your other hand (right) which is between his legs

2. Walk your left shin onto your opp’s stomach as your left arm goes under your opp’s head

3. Now turn your hips and sit out onto your ass to free your other leg

From the standard DLR guard (Left leg around thigh, holding heel, right foot on hip, right hand holding opp’s right hand)

1. Take right foot off opp’s hip and switch it to the near side hip

2. Bridge onto your outside (left) shoulder and slide your left foot from his near side thigh over to the his other thigh

3. Now, your right foot tranfers from his hip to behind his near side thigh (now both legs are are behind your opp’s)

4. Scoot behind your opp until you are square

5. Grab your opp’s belt to pull him back on his butt as you extend you legs outward

6. Get your hooks in and either finish the RNC or the gi-choke

Once again, the issue of the pivotal role of grappling in the mixed martial arts is addressed.

This past weekend, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials took place in Las Vegas. We address the crazy rules put in place by FILA, the international wrestling federation.

Right after his victory at the Olympic Trials, we spoke by phone with Daniel Cormier, who will represent the U.S. at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. in freestyle wrestling. He is also expected to be part of a group of Olympic wrestlers who will be visiting New York this coming Thursday and Friday to make fan and media appearances.

RealFighter magazine recently delved behind the scenes into the making of the film Redbelt and talked to some of the key players in the martial arts world responsible for bringing the realism to the screen.

“Mamet is a fine choice to lead the charge of MMA into the moviegoing mainstream. Over the past several years, he has earned a purple belt under Renato Magno, a BJJ instructor in Santa Monica, Calif. (In one for the “Fact is Stranger than Fiction” file, Mamet was reportedly introduced to BJJ by his rabbi.) According to Magno, Mamet walks the walk: “His jiu-jitsu is very technical and he did some boxing and grappling before. He has some good chokes and armbars,” says Magno who appeared in Mamet’s movie “Spartan” and helped choreograph the fight scenes in “Redbelt”.

This Saturday, June 14, EliteXC has another major televised mixed martial arts show. This one will be shown on Showtime in the U.S. and be held in the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In the main event, EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons will defend his title against the veteran Yves Edwards. In the co-feature, the versatile and controversial lightweight Nick Diaz will take on Muhsin Corbbrey, who has also been a pro boxer.

On a media teleconference call this week, we spoke with KJ Noons, Yves Edwards, and Muhsin Corbbrey about their fights.

This Friday, June 13, in a bout being billed as for pound-for-pound supremacy in women’s boxing, welterweight champion Holly Holm (21-1-2, 6 KOs) will fight unbeaten middleweight champion Mary Jo Sanders (25-0, 8 KOs) in the ten-round main event for the vacant IFBA world junior middleweight belt. This fight headlines a women’s boxing card which will be shown on pay-per-view television in North America and on SecondsOut.TV elsewhere.

We spoke with both champions, Mary Jo Sanders and Holly Holm, on a media teleconference call this week, about what to expect in this fight.

In disappointing but not entirely unexpected news, the International Fight League (IFL) announced this week that they are cancelling their planned august 15 show at the Meadowlands. In both a news release and on a media teleconference call, IFL CEO Jay Larkin explained this decision and outlined their business plans.

On that call, we discussed the problem of the absence of a major television deal for IFL with Jay Larkin, and we also play his opening comments from that call.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman begins by commenting on the recent exposure of what goes on behind the scenes of UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” show by cast member and fighter Mike Dolce. Here, once again, the true, anti-social nature of that show is laid bare.

Next, we review the entertaining Gotham Girls Roller Derby bout held this past Saturday, June 7, at Hunter College in New York, where the Bronx Gridlock routed the Brooklyn Bombshells, 126-53. Right after the event, we spoke with Bronx Gridlock members Ginger Snap, who is also president of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby, and Beatrix Slaughter, the Gridlock jammer who was named this event’s MVP.

This week, from Friday, June 13, through Sunday, June 15, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victors in each weight class go on to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, this August.

We had a chance this past week on a media teleconference call to speak with three of the top-rated wrestlers competing at this event: men’s freestyle wrestler Mo Lawal (84 kg/185 lbs.), women’s freestyle wrestler Marcie Van Dusen (55 kg/121 lbs.), and Greco-Roman wrestler T.C. Dantzler (74 kg/163 lbs.).

Many may remember the popular roller derby television shows of past decades. Those shows, however, featured a staged version of this sport.

In recent years, however, roller derby has been revived as a real sport, and mainly among women. Real competition is organized through the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, which has several dozen leagues as members.

Among those leagues is the Gotham Girls Roller Derby league, based in New York City, and a skater-owned and operated organization.

To introduce our listeners to this new wave of roller derby and to understand its history and development, we spoke with Natily Blair, the president of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby. While this league puts on real bouts, the athletes in it use humorous monikers to add to the sport’s entertainment value. Thus, when Natily Blair competes, she is known as Ginger Snap.
